The Conference is Coming!

Boston Welcomes the 25th Annual National Conference on Problem Gambling
75 State Street

This summer one of the country’s most historic cities will host the oldest and largest conference on problem gambling in the world.

Boston, New England’s own crown-jewel, will offer a setting of contrast for the 25th National Conference on Problem Gambling, planned to reflect the very forward-looking theme Revolutionary Changes and Emerging Innovations.

Set against the backdrop of famous Boston Harbor, the far-reaching Freedom Trail, and eclectic Quincy Market, this year’s conference will be held July 1 and 2 at the Park Plaza Hotel and Towers, with two days of skill-building pre-conference workshops on June 29 and 30.

Some of this year’s conference topics will include gambling issues on a global scale, evolving technology’s role in both addressing and presenting gambling opportunities, and gambling’s medical and psychological causes and effects, each explored through a number of breakout sessions.

Gambling problems and how they present themselves within different communities, for instance – from military personnel and veterans to older adults to Asian populations – will be discussed, as will a diverse set of new and traditional rehabilitation avenues such as applying the neuroscience of addiction to gambling interventions, maximizing helpline value, hypnosis, and mindfulness-based relapse prevention. Successful interventions that have been applied in other countries including in Canada and the United Kingdom will also be examined.

For a quarter of a century, the National Conference on Problem Gambling has brought together leaders in prevention, education, treatment, responsible gambling, research, and recovery to present the latest developments in their fields. While the conference offers continuing education credits for professionals who work with people experiencing problems with gambling, newcomers experiencing gambling issues are also welcome.

The weekend promises an immeasurable opportunity for information, networking, and support, with easy access to all Beantown has to offer, from raucous tours in the amphibious Duck Boats to succulent meals of chowder, lobster, or oysters on the half shell.
